N/Sct John P. MITCHELL sighted a globular shaped object with ¢ trailing
tail about 1/3 the size of a half=moon in the eky. The color was orence
red as fire and the trailing tail was biue like a gas flame. Speed was
dike a PSO jet plane ami the heading was RY to SE. There wes no devietion
from a descending course of 35° to 5°. There was no identifieble sound.
Considerable motor noise at Kirtland AF Ease Growned out other possible sound.
It first appeared on a vertical azimth 35° O1' OO" and horigontei azimth
of 221° 30' 09" according to trensit. measurements taken at 0730. It
disappeared on a vertical azimuth of 05° 00' 0%" and a horizontal ezimuth of
166° 29' OO%, Time in passage wes 5 to 7 seconds. The exhaust trail wes
blue flame l; to 5 tines the lencth of the object. M/Sct MITCHELL stated
that the object looked like a plane hit by 4A fire, gliding out of control.
